Identification
Field Guide Descriptions: Online Photographs: MPG, BugGuide, iNaturalist, Google, BAMONA, GBIF, BOLDTechnical Description, Adults: Rindge (1985)
Adult Markings: The forewings have a sharply pointed apex and a rounded outer margin. The ground color is orange brown ground color and the lines are dark chocolate brown. The basal line is curved and the antemedian is angled below the costa and then becomes indistinct (Rindge, 1985). The postmedian line is the most prominent marking, being more strongly represented on the upper portion of the wing. The discal dash is elongate and there may be a series of small subterminal dots and a larger spot above the outer angle. The hindwings have the anterior portion grayish, changing to brown posteriorly. The maculation consists of a discal spot and a broad extradiscal line.
Forewing Length: 8.3-9.2 mm (Rindge, 1985)
Adult Structural Features: The palps are flattened and very long, extending beyond the eye 1.4 (male) to 1.5 (female) times the diameter of the eye (Rindge, 1985).The male antennae are shortly bifasciculate, with the segments slightly longer than wide . The lateral groups of setae arise ventrally from the two ridges on the ventral surface of each segment, with the setae being about one-half the length of the segment. The female antennae are shortly ciliate below, with a longer pair of setae near the end of each segment. The eighth sternite consists of two heavily sclerotized, slender, curved arms approaching each other distally, with their apices angled, then weakly concave with rounded tips.
Adult ID Requirements: Identifiable from good quality photos of unworn specimens.
