Description: Distinctively colored, this is the most colorful member of this genus. The wings are a dark brown to shiny black color with blackish edges and a small yellow 'saddle' in the middle of the back. The scutellum is completely yellow, as is part of the pronotum and head. A [typically] bold black bar across the front of the pronotum is diagnostic of this species (BG); the face is also black with a broad yellow band beneath the eyes. Some individuals can be exceptionally dark, while recently molted adults may have an overall much paler body. The female pregenital sternite has the posterior margin broadly and concavely excavated with a meadian short tooth. Adults are 5.0-6.5 mm long, with males smaller than females. Nymphs have a pale body with many reddish-orange markings. (DeLong 1948)
