Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Almost all of our records come from barrier islands where Camphorweed is common. A few also come from sandridge habitats located close to the coast.
Larval Host Plants: Larvae are stenophagous, feeding on Camphorweeds (Wagner et al., 2011). Populations associated with the barrier islands are probably restricted to feeding on (Heterotheca subaxillaris) but recent inland records from the Sandhills and southwestern Piedmont indicate that it also feeds on common Camphorweed (Heterotheca latifolia), which may, in fact, represent just a form of (H. axillaris) (Weakley, 2022; see discussion in the Vascular Plants of North Carolina). - View
