DistributionCollected by Mark Basinger in 2023 in Wilson County; NCU 448027. No other known state records.

Native to southeastern Asia. In the U.S., reported from all states from SC to FL and west to TX (Weakley 2023a). Thus, NC is a slight "range extension".
AbundanceVery rare, though the Wilson County site was "Perhaps just one plant (genet) with several hundred ramets".
HabitatThe Wilson record was from the edge of a narrow strip of forest, between a greenway and a canal. Most U.S. records are from various roadsides and suburban woodlands.
PhenologyBlooms from July to October.
IdentificationThis Clerodendrum is a shrub up to 6 feet tall and has a corolla tube less than 3 cm (1.5 inches) long. It is the only one of six Clerodendrum species in the Southeast with a corolla tube less than 3 cm that has a strongly pink or pinkish-red corolla. The others with a shortish corolla tube have corollas that are orange to orange-red. The other species in NC -- C. trichotomum -- has a white or pale pink corolla.
