Author | Nesom | |
Distribution | This species is a split from Euthamia hirtipes by Nesom (2021a). The website authors have not determined from specimens which of the former hirtipes belong to this more northerly species versus those of E. weakleyi, the more southerly species. However, at a minimum, the NCU herbarium does show specimens from five counties, south to Carteret, and inward to Gates County. However, Sorrie examined NC specimens of floribunda (including Gates and Hyde counties) and concluded that they fall within the natural variability of E. caroliniana.
"NJ and e. PA south mainly near the coast to e. NC." (Weakley 2022).

Abundance | Apparently rare or uncommon, but abundance level is poorly known. The NCNHP has given a State Rank of S1S3 to cover this great uncertainty and has placed the taxon on the Watch List (W7).
Habitat | "Fresh and salt water marshes, disturbed wet areas, sand pits and ditches, canal banks, agricultural field edges, roadsides, sandy meadows, pine barrens" (Weakley 2022).
Phenology | Blooms and fruits from July or August to November.
Identification | This species differs from E. weakleyi by having "Leaves 1-4 mm wide; axillary shoots present" as opposed to having "Leaves (2-) 3-5 (-7) mm wide; axillary shoots absent or sometimes present on the upper stem" (Weakley 2022) in that species.
Taxonomic Comments | See above. This is a "shaky" species, as specimens can be confused with E. caroliniana, if not also E. weakleyi.
