DistributionSo far known only from the central Mountains, eastward in the Piedmont to Catawba County. A specimen at USDA website from Lincoln County is not supported by specimen at SERNEC.

"Traditionally considered an endemic originally restricted to w. NC" (Weakley 2022). Might be a taxon just of horticultural origin.
AbundanceRare to very locally uncommon in the central Mountains, but very rare in the Piedmont. This taxon is on the NCNHP's Significantly Rare list.
Habitat"Mountain woodlands, introduced elsewhere" (Weakley 2022).
PhenologyBlooms from April to July, and fruits from July to October.
